Austria is known for its Wiener schnitzel, of course, and that's definitely one thing we ate in Vienna, but here's where else - and what else - we ate whilst there:
We had the aforementioned Wiener schnitzel twice whilst in town. Firstly at Zum Leupold, a well-known restaurant, for dinner. And then for lunch at Moment Cafe, which is located near Schloss Belvedere - home to Klimt's "The Kiss" (amongst other works of his). Both yum (and also had the goulash at Zum Leupold). Another Viennese must-do is Cafe Landtmann, which was Freud's favourite cafe, where we enjoyed champagne and cake. Pistachio cake for me (below).
It's more of a seasonal thing, but when we were there in August there was a film festival on at the Rathausplatz where there was loads of street food stalls. I cannot remember what the one we went to was called, but we had some great Korean fried chicken there. I would give Santos Neubau a miss, if you're eyeing there up. It was distinctively average Mexican food. Ditto Brandauer Schlossbrau for food - it's a beer hall, so you're good for drinks, but the food was average.
Finally, speaking of drinks, we had drinks at Palmenhaus a few times, which is a fabulous former tropical house (greenhouse) in Burggarten. Plus drinks at Bukowski, which is open super late with super nice staff - we were there until the early hours the night of the cancelled Taylor Swift concert - and at Horváth Weinstüberl. Three very different vibed places for drinks, showing three different sides of Vienna! x
