Austria: Four musical things to do in Vienna

The reason we headed to Vienna last summer was because we managed to score tickets for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. Which gave me the idea to centre this post around music, even though the concert, sadly, didn't happen. But since Vienna is considered the world capital of classical music, we still managed to hear some excellent music whilst there. It was just a different kind!

1. Enjoy to a classical music recital

You would be remiss not to experience some live classical music in the capital city of classical music, so we booked tickets for a recital at St Stephen's Church and spent a delightful hour listening to pieces by Mozart, Vivaldi, Borodin, Schubert, Bach and Dvorak, played by two talented violinists, a cellist and a violist. Both the Baroque church and the musicians were super impressive.

2. See something at the Vienna State Opera House
Considered one of the best opera houses in the world, try and add a performance to the Vienna State Opera House to your list. And if that's not possible, at least check out the impressive building, which is what we did.

3. Pay a visit to Corneliusgasse
When our Taylor Swift concert didn't happen, the Swifties pivoted to make this a positive event. (We had standing tickets to the opening night, N1, in Vienna but a terrorist threat from ISIS saw all three concerts in the capital be cancelled.) As well as impromptu singalongs around Vienna, Corneliusgasse was quickly established as "Cornelia Street" and a tree there was designated as the friendship bracelet tree where fans could swap bracelets. You'll actually find since then they've added a plaque to the street paying tribute to this event. One for the Swifties!

4. Learn about music
The Haus Der Musik (House of Music) very kindly gave free entry to Taylor Swift ticket holders so we popped in to learn more about music. There are interactive exhibitions dotted around, plus a whole floor dedicated to Vienna's most famous musicians: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauß, Haydn and Mahler. Entry costs €17 for adults.

Have you been to Vienna? x
