Thailand: Where to eat in Samui

Part of the reason why we decided to go to Thailand was because of Thai food, and we found that we actually had better Thai food on Samui than we did in Bangkok. Which surprised us. Here's where we ate:

First up, and it has a great name, Lecker Shmecker. This was close to where we staying at Nora Buri Resort & Spa, but we still needed to get a songthaew there as it was a little too far to walk. Food was great, and it was cheap! There's a theme really to Samui, it was all great and cheap, but not as cheap as the Chaweng Night Market where we had a street food snack. You're talking 70 baht for some gyoza, which is around £1.50. Treat it like a pre-dinner snack like we did, or have a street food feast of a dinner for less than a tenner. Your call!

The other restaurants we went to in Chaweng were Khaw Glong Thai, Malee Kitchen and Chom Chada. All really nice but Chom Chada was our fave one. The curries there were more premium, and they had a great kaffir lime cocktail. Food was also decent at our hotel - we had dinner there on our first night, and then had room service every day by our pool for lunch.

In Fisherman's Village we ate at Guilty Samui, which is at the Anantara. Flavours are South American, and it's on the pricier side, but who can resist a restaurant where they make guacamole in front of you and adjust it until it's the perfect guac! We also went to Burma Kitchen, our first time eating Burmese food, and I highly recommend eating there. The crispy chickpea paratha is super yum, and I also enjoyed their chicken balls with mashed potato. Super cheap; super delicious.

Finally, we had dinner at Plailaem tam sung, which is this little kitchen at the side of the road with some tables and chairs - it's not in a tourist spot, but it's worth heading out of your way for. We had two tasty big curries (one chicken cashew and one chicken panang) with two soft drinks for a mere 310 baht (about £7), and they also gave us lots of free dishes. Make sure you pay them a visit! x
