Where to eat in Bath

For my birthday trip to Bath earlier this year, we were seriously impressed with the food. So much so, it warrants its own blog post to shout-out about all the deliciousness. Here's four places you should absolutely consider eating at if you're ever in Bath:

1. Menu Gordon Jones
I did not think we would get the opportunity to eat at Menu Gordon Jones. A tiny restaurant with only 22 covers, I emailed them the week before my birthday to see if they had a table. LOL. But! Miraculously! They contacted me on my birthday to say they had a cancellation the next evening. Would we like that? Yes, yes we would, please and thank you.

We went there for their nine-course tasting menu, which is a complete surprise. You only find out your menu as each dish is brought to your table. And we did that with the paired wine flight, which was such a treat. Each course and each wine was superb. And a surprise menu does force you to eat things you would never normally order.

I loved the "Bag of bread" concept which, yes, is literally a bag of bread, but it was seriously yum bread and butter. (Plus some celeriac syrup and whipped pork fat.) But my favourite course had to be the red mullet dish, which was divine. Each course was excellently explained as it was brought out to us - including Gordon Jones himself bringing out one of our courses - as was the wine. And all the wine was so yum! Highly recommend eating here if you're in Bath (and can get a table!).

2. The Hive
Ah, The Hive, which is where we ended up for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was super accommodating, and honoured my request for a table with a view. Asked for because The Hive has a rather excellent view of Bath's Pulteney Weir. The view - and the food - did not disappoint. They also look to have a rather excellent Sunday lunch menu, if you're ever there at the weekend.

3. Tagine Zhor
Recommended to us, Tagine Zhor is a rather yummy Moroccan restaurant in Bath that we very much enjoyed. We went for their two-course dinner menu, which is so reasonable at £26.95 per person for two courses each, then had some baklava afterwards. Seriously stuffed!

4. Boston Tea Party
We did have breakfast included at our hotel, but we overslept so headed out for brunch at Boston Tea Party on my birthday. I went for their rather yum Boston bean hash on sourdough with a side of hash browns (always!). Great spot for breakfast.
