I've already told you all about some musical things you can do in Vienna; here are four non-musical and fun things you can do on a city break in Austria's capital city:
1. Pucker up at Schloss Belvedere
Schloss Belvedere isn't just a Baroque palace, it's also the home to Gustav Klimt's The Kiss, his most famous piece of art. And lots of other art, too, ranging all the way from the Middle Ages/Renaissance through to the 1970s. The building is also quiet something, as well. Definitely recommend booking in advance. (We just showed up and it was sold out for the day, so we booked online for the next day.)
2. Take a champagne ride
As Ollie and Amy (Olly's sister) weren't in Vienna as long as us, they had less time to see the sights. So we did a Royal Ecars Tours with them, which took us around all the main sights of Vienna in an old car, whilst drinking a bottle of fizz. A great alternative to an open-top bus tour - and a great way to see the key parts of the city quickly!
3. Channel your inner Belle
If you're a bookworm like me, go and see books galore at the Prunksaal (the National Library's State Hall). It's another beautiful Baroque building, containing over 200,000 books.
One of the positive things that came out of the Taylor Swift Vienna concerts getting cancelled (we had tickets for the first night) was that museums and galleries let ticket holders in for free. Which is how we found ourselves admiring some more art at ALBERTINA. We saw exhibitions by Eva Beresin, Franz Grabmayr and Gregory Crewdson, as well as the permanent Batliner collection of modern art. Definitely a fan!
