Jordan: Dead Sea

The lowest point on Earth is the Dead Sea, so what better place to end our Jordanian adventure with some rest and relaxation there?

Taking around three hours to drive from Wadi Musa to the Dead Sea, we arrived at lunchtime at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, our home for our last three nights. A word of warning if you're doing that drive, the lowest point means you will be descending in height. My ears were popping and hurting lots towards the end of that car journey. Eek!

So I was very glad to arrive at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar which is modelled on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. It's a very opulent hotel but not actually that expensive for a 5* hotel compared to what those sorts of hotels tend to cost in other parts of the world. We didn't leave the resort so only ate there, but the food was tasty and not crazily expensive.

One good thing about the hotel is that they don't allow day guests like some of the other hotels do along the Dead Sea so it's not overcrowded because of that. And you've got direct access into the Dead Sea where you can float, smother yourself in mud, and reap the benefits of the mud's minerals. We, of course, ticked that off our bucket list. Be careful not to get the water in your eyes though!

To be honest, there's not much else I can say about the Dead Sea. We had a great stay at the hotel - the service is phenomenal - and it was a great way to end our adventure in Jordan (it's about an hour's drive from the airport in Amman). The weather was mostly cloudy whilst we were there, but it was still hot with temperatures around 34-38°C.

Is floating in the Dead Sea on your bucket list? x
