TMTW: January 2021

What happened:
Another national lockdown. Let's face it, we all knew the clock striking midnight on New Year's Day wasn't going to change anything. (But how we wished that would be the case.)

January was very quiet, no surprise there. Lots of reading, TV watching, some walks, and cooking yummy food - basically continuing the theme of 2020. Towards the end of the month, Dad got his first jab, we viewed some houses (so exciting!), and it snowed! My hair also remained stubbornly pink. Hoping to get it back blonde in February!

What I ate:
We did a Hawksmoor Sunday roast (at home, obviously), which I highly recommend if you live within 8 miles of their Air Street restaurant and can get it delivered. Everything is prepped so you just cook all the bits, apart from the Yorkshire puddings which you heat up. Got the Dalston dip burger kit from Nanny Bill's, which was yum (and used the leftover wonderdust and bacon bacon mayo from the Almost Famous DIY kit on our tater tots).

We tried Cash & Kari by Hoppers and had the ALC lamb kothu roti (nice), the bone marrow varuval (yum) and mutton rolls (so delicious). We also added Lucky Peach 101 Easy Asian Recipes and The Quick Roasting Tin to our cookbook collection. So far we've just made the slow cooker pho from Lucky Peach (EPIC) but we've made quite a few recipes from The Quick Roasting Tin and I can highly recommend it for yummy weeknight dinners.

What I watched:
TV shows watched: continued watching The Masked Singer (weirdly addictive), watched The Undoing (so gripping!), Moonbase 8 (average), Bridgerton (good fun), History of Swear Words (amusing), seasons 1-4 of Somebody Feed Phil (loved it), season 2 of The End of the F***ing World (lives up to the high standard season 1 set), Raised by Wolves (not my cup of tea), and started watching WandaVision (enjoying it) and Fosse/Verdon.

Films watched: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, La La Land, Cats (2019), Notting Hill, Greed, The Greatest Showman, Spectre, Blithe Spirit, Beverly Hills Cop, The Cable Guy, Zoolander and The Neverending Story.

Theatre watched: Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical.

What I read:
In January I was a bookworm and read a whopping 27 books - though five of those were short stories. (I also abandoned reading four books.) Two rare 5* ratings from me for Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and Romancing Mr Bridgerton by Julia Quinn.

I gave 4* ratings to books 7, 8 and 9 in the Bridgerton series, as well as Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, One Summer in Paris by Sarah Morgan, The Mandibles: A Family, 2029-2047 by Lionel Shriver, Cross Her Heart by Melina Leigh, Do You Dream of Terra-Two? by Temi Oh and Black and British: A Forgotten History by David Olusoga.

How's your 2021 going? x
