Milan: Duomo area

A few weeks ago we jetted off to Milan for a long weekend. Now, we were just going to go somewhere in the UK but then Spurs - Olly's football team of choice - got through to the next round in the Europa League and would be playing Inter Milan... How could I say no to a long weekend in Milan, especially when one of my best friends lives just outside of Italy's fashion capital!

It's probably safe to say that Milan's biggest tourist attraction is its Cathedral. You can't miss Milan Cathedral as you exist the Metro at Duomo - it's bloody impressive. As well as going inside (that's free), make sure you go up to the terrace and enjoy an incredible view of Milan. If you're feeling lazy you can pay a few more Euros and take the elevator up (€12.00) but the stairs (€7.00) aren't that tiring!

Stunning, isn't it? One thing to watch out for whilst you are in the Duomo area are the men who will pounce on you, wanting to give you a free bracelet. There's no such thing as a free lunch (bracelet), OK, so firmly say no and walk away!

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you're in Milan on a Sunday, this is pretty much the only area that will be open. We had a late Sunday afternoon flight back from Malpensa and, in hindsight, would have left on Sunday morning if we'd have known this. We spent our last day trying to find something to do that would keep us out of the snow - not fun! x
