Tattoo research

I'm doing a quick blog post tonight just to get some ideas on tattoos. What's your view on tattoos? Would you/have you got one... two... several? If so, where/what is it? Or, where/what would you get?

Thanks, guys! Hope you're all having a good weekend! x

  1. I have a small one low on my hip and i'm getting another on the underside of my wrist soon. I like them but only if they're discreet and mean something....I don't get these people who just have random things.
On my hip is an angel (reminds me of my Nan and someone else who was special in my life) and my next one is going to be something to remind me that I can get through the hard times...

  2. Hey! Found my way here via 20SB.

First of all, I just wanted to say that I'm generally pro-tattoos. When they are artistic, individual and done with skill, they can look totally fantastic!

I have a couple of tattoos - they're definitely NOT small (despite the fact that I'm a small person):

    1) I have one tattoo of five watercolour-style robins that goes from the base of my neck (upper back, whatever) and wraps all the way across my back to end just above my right hip. It was my first tattoo and I love it more every day. People always ask me if it's real - which I don't completely understand... I mean, how could it NOT be? hahaha.

    2) I have a round, happy laughing Buddha tattooed over my left ribcage. He's kind of a jade colour and I always rub his belly for luck :)

I don't like to post photos of my tattoos online as I kind of want to keep them to myself - they are easily covered by clothing and are only seen when I go for a swim/surf. But that's just me :)

Advice? CHOOSE YOUR ARTIST VERY CAREFULLY. Even if it means you have to wait several months for a session, it is totally worth the wait. Also, a talented tattoo artist is worth more than their weight in gold! Tattoos from good artists can be expensive (but not always), but again, so worth it. After all, you're going to have that design/image/whatever as part of your body for the rest of your life, so you want it to be as good as it possibly can be!

Whew! Sorry for the long reply!

    Good luck and enjoy.

    xo

  3. Tattoos are like everything else - fine in moderation. They're more permanent than most things in your life so it's a bad idea to have a partner's name tattooed anywhere at all. You just don't know what the future will bring.

I've been toying with the idea of having a tattoo for ages but I can't think of anything I'd want to have as part of me on such a permanent basis. The date of my wedding anniversary would be useful, but that's about it.

I know a very good joke about tattoos but it's absolutely filthy. You'll need to PM me if you want to hear it.

  4. (came traipsing to your blog by way of Dirty Blonde's blog)

I have four tattoos...I love them! (one on each shoulder, one on each calf...pics here: http://navywifeadventures.blogspot.com/2008/10/body-graffiti-pics.html).

My general view on tattoos: They're definitely a personal decision, not something to be taken lightly (they hurt and they're permanent...DUH!). And quite frankly, if someone looks down on me or judges me because I have ink on my skin (they have and they do), I think it says more about them than it does me.

  5. No disrespect to the people above! But I am writing this to stop you from doing something you may regret! I think tattoos look quite trashy! They are permanent unless you have the money to get them lasered off and even then you're often left with scars! If I were you I'd stay girly and elegant and tattoo-free! Just my opinion! And by the way I have been tempted in the past to get one done myself. But I came to my senses and I definitely would have regretted it if I'd had it done!

  6. I've actually just found the tattoo that I want to get, but still deciding if or where I would put it. I like tattoos if tastefully done. But it is completely a personal decision. If you really want one, get it!

And I will get my tattoo someday, even if it is when I'm 40.

  7. My only advice is be 100% sure that you want your tattoo before you get it.

So far I've only got "Don't Panic" tattooed on my lower left arm and I love it. The thing with tattoos is, once you get started you're hooked.

  8. I love my tattoo. It's unique (the guy kinda, um, freestyled? on my back) and it's exactly what I wanted.

but I did think about it for over a year before getting it, partially b/c of my parents. (I still haven't told my parents I have it, they may disown me.) I'm glad I did though, b/c I felt much better about getting it.

  9. It could take me a long time to reply! I did a whole talk on it last year at church - I might post my talk especially - I don't think the podcast went live but it might still be hosted on the church site :)
